Wash & Care Instructions

Marimekko fabrics have been designed to look good for a long time. Treat them well and they’ll treat you well, too. They’ve even been known to be passed on from generation to generation.

Follow the instructions on the care label.

Printed Fabrics, Cotton or Linen
Follow the instructions on the care label for recommended wash temperature. For coloured articles, we recommend a detergent that does not contain any bleach or brightening agents.

Soaking is not recommended, as it may cause excess dye to bleed onto light areas of fabric.

Wash separately in plenty of water the first few times to remove any excess dye that may have remained on the fabric surface.

We recommend washing before sewing, because cotton and linen fabrics always shrink in the first wash.

Metallic Fabrics
Metallic printed fabrics should be washed at 40°C (104°F) and in plenty of water, and ironed on the reverse side. They must not be dry-cleaned.

Coated and Trevira CS Fabrics
Strong-coloured stains (carrot, tomato, berries, ink, sauces etc.) should be removed from coated fabrics immediately to prevent the stain from adhering to the porous surface. Coated fabrics can be washed in plenty of water, at 40°C (104°F) on the delicate cycle, and ironed on the reverse side. We recommend storing coated fabrics on a roll.

Marimekko's fabrics are printed either by a rotary method or a flatbed printing method. Flatbed printing enables the printing of big repeats but it also produces repeat lines, which can be clearly seen on some fabrics depending on the pattern and colours. Repeat lines are characteristic of fabrics printed by the flatbed method; they are not a reason for complaint.
